ArcotID: Invisible Protection from Identity Fraud

Recently, Arcot launched the ArcotID Flash client, a 100 percent software security solution that takes advantage of Adobe Flash. It gives consumers the highest online security with unprecedented simplicity. ArcotID brings strong authentication to consumer desktops by making it as easy as watching a Flash movie.

ArcotID Flash client is part of WebFort, the company's two-factor authentication system for large enterprises in financial services, healthcare and other industries facing increasing regulatory pressure to protect and verify end users' identities.

With the ArcotID Flash client, no user interaction is needed. There are no pop-up browser messages, no security warnings, no calls to the help desk, and no changes in user behavior. Users simply log in as always with their user name and password, making the process ideal for strong authentication for the consumer market.

Even though it's invisible to the user, behind the scenes the highest levels of security are at work. And since Adobe Flash is already installed on 98 percent of computer worldwide, the new Arcot solution makes two-factor authentication convenient and cost effective enough for mass deployment.

"Businesses want better online security, but they don't want the risk of changing customer behavior," said Ram Varadarajan, co-founder and CEO of Arcot Systems. "Using Adobe Flash to make strong online authentication invisible to them solves that problem and brings strong two-factor authentication to most computer users' desktops."

Major security milestone

"This is a major milestone in preventing identity fraud — combining the strong authentication and ease-of-use of Arcot with the ubiquity of the Adobe Flash Player," said John Landwehr, Adobe's Director of Security Solutions. "By combining both innovative technologies, we made it easier for organizations to effectively protect their users' identities with stronger and very user-friendly authentication."

The ArcotID Flash client is also highly secure. Arcot combines its own security technology, including its patented Cryptographic Camouflage for protecting information in software, with Internet standards like Secure Flash and SSL.

These technologies automatically prevent man-in-the-middle, phishing and other threats that can enable identity fraud. The result is an easy to implement, two-factor authentication that's strong enough to satisfy security sensitive enterprises, yet complies with privacy and identity regulations like those from the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Invisible and seamless

"Our research shows consumers want security that is both invisible and seamless and, while they are increasingly more accepting of strong authentication, the delicate balance between customer convenience and robust security must be attained," explained Rachel Kim, Research Associate for Javelin Strategy and Research. "Products like ArcotID Flash client that do both — increase security behind the scenes with no consumer action required and give banks the option of a invisible security cue — should appeal to both banks and consumers."

Easy to use

Dorado Corporation, a company that provides network solutions that streamline the loan process for leading financial institutions including Chase, Capital One, Countrywide, Washington Mutual and others, depends on Arcot for its easy to use solutions.

"It is important that our products provide high levels of security, while being easy to use," said David Hultquist, Vice President, Marketing for Dorado Corporation. "Arcot's new Flash client helps us do both."
