Simply SecureCustomer confidence is declining, according to a new report from Aberdeen titled "Securing the Online User Experience – Building User Confidence and Stopping Fraud." Therefore, security measures that do not hinder the user experience are increasingly important. Rising concerns"Everyone we spoke to — at banks, service providers, e-tailers and consultancies — was very, very apprehensive about the increase in the volume of and sophistication of fraud attacks," says Carol Baroudi, research director in the IT security practice at Aberdeen. "Yet nearly all were even more concerned about account holder and potential account holder reticence. Survey respondents said that confidence has been steadily declining over the last seven years, and as a result, the cost of doing business online is climbing." Although passwords are convenient and people know how to use them, they can be insecure. Considering that consumers are using billions of passwords daily, the practical solution is to make passwords stronger without changing the consumer experience. Increasing security measuresBased on the plans reported by banks, retailers, telecommunications companies and other organizations participating in the study, Aberdeen researchers expect the number of institutions using digital watermarks to double to 22 percent in 2008. They also see faster growth in risk-based authentication, jumping from 20 to 32 percent, as well as transaction-monitoring use, moving from 49 to 68 percent. Following the trends"The Aberdeen study shows we are on the right track," says Carol Alexander, marketing vice president for Arcot. "Our products provide security with behind-the-scenes protection, using the familiar username and password logon that consumers are used to." Our multi-factor authentication products help make security transparent to customers and provide security to businesses without placing an undue burden on either party.
