Discussions, Actions and Solutions

Bill BarnesDesigned to help executives in manufacturing industries meet growth and operations improvement objectives, The Future of Manufacturing was held in Montreal in August 2007. The event was broadcast in its entirety via the Internet to an audience spanning five continents. Keynotes of the event included representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency, Boeing, and other major manufacturing companies.

Discussions in progress

The event created a forum where leaders from the public and private sector could exchange views, information, and build partnerships. Lattice Technology, Inc. discussed the major manufacturing benefits reaped from implementing XVL® (eXtensible Virtual world description Language).

"Using the newest product innovations based on XVL, manufacturing companies can easily re-use large-scale CAD files," said Bill Barnes, U.S. general manager, Lattice Technology. "They have full control over security and accuracy for downstream uses from design review to 3D publishing of manuals and online spare parts catalogues."

Solutions in action

The "Solutions in Action" presentation highlighted how leading manufacturing companies are currently using Lattice solutions to increase efficiency and internal cohesion. With XVL, 3D data that originates as engineering CAD models can be easily shared, re-used, published and communicated throughout a manufacturing company eliminating the need for recreation of the same model. XVL systems have been extensively implemented in the automotive industry, most notably in the worldwide plants of Toyota Motor Company.

"We were delighted to be able to have presented technology innovations that will continue to improve manufacturing and increase the value of our many customers," said Barnes.
